Educational Talks & Wildlife Awareness
Inspiring people to care for wildlife
At CapesWildlifeRescue, we believe that education is one of the most powerful ways to protect wildlife.
Understanding the animals that share our environment, recognising when they need help and learning how our actions affect them can make a real difference to their welfare and conservation.
We are passionate about sharing our knowledge and experience through educational talks designed to inform, inspire and encourage responsible attitudes towards wildlife.
Whether you're a school, community group, local organisation or business, we'd love to hear from you if you're interested in learning more about British wildlife and the work involved in rescuing and rehabilitating animals in need.
What Do Our Talks Cover?
Our educational talks can explore a range of wildlife-related subjects, with content tailored to the interests and needs of your audience.
British Wildlife & Our Native Species
Discover the wildlife that lives alongside us, from hedgehogs and garden birds to small mammals and other native species.
Our talks can explore their habitats, natural behaviours, diets, life cycles and the challenges they face in an increasingly human-shaped environment.
Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation
What happens when an injured or vulnerable wild animal enters a rescue centre?
Learn about the wildlife rescue process, from initial triage and admission through veterinary assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and, where appropriate, release back into the wild.
We can also discuss the importance of responsible intervention and why not every animal found alone or on the ground needs rescuing.
Hedgehogs & Garden Wildlife
Hedgehogs are among Britain's best-known and most loved mammals, but they face numerous challenges, including habitat loss, road traffic, garden hazards and declining access to suitable food and shelter.
Our talks can explain how to make gardens more wildlife-friendly, recognise potential signs of distress and understand when a hedgehog may need professional help.
We can also explore simple, practical ways to make outdoor spaces safer for wildlife.
Helping Wildlife in Need
Knowing what to do when you find an injured or vulnerable animal can be difficult.
We can explain how to observe wildlife safely, when to seek advice, how to minimise stress and why inappropriate feeding or handling can sometimes cause harm.
The aim is to help people make informed decisions that put animal welfare first.
Wildlife Welfare & Conservation
Learn about the importance of protecting natural habitats, preserving wild behaviours and ensuring that rehabilitation has the right objectives.
We discuss why wild animals should not be treated as pets, why release is the preferred outcome for suitable animals, and the welfare considerations involved when an animal cannot return to the wild.
Behind the Scenes at a Wildlife Rescue
Wildlife rescue involves far more than caring for animals.
Our talks can explore the daily responsibilities of a rescue centre, including feeding, cleaning, monitoring, biosecurity, veterinary care, rehabilitation, fundraising and volunteer coordination.
We can also discuss the challenges faced by independent rescues and the importance of community support in keeping this work going.
Who Are Our Talks For?
We welcome enquiries from a variety of groups, including:
Schools and educational settings — introducing pupils to British wildlife, animal welfare and conservation.
Scouts, Guides and youth groups — exploring wildlife awareness, habitats and practical ways to help animals.
Community groups and local organisations — sharing knowledge and encouraging local wildlife-friendly initiatives.
Businesses and workplace groups — providing an engaging session about wildlife, conservation and responsible environmental practices.
Clubs, societies and interest groups — offering an opportunity to learn more about wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.
We can discuss the intended audience and adapt the content accordingly, subject to availability and the suitability of the requested topics.
A Talk Tailored to Your Audience
Every group is different, so we are happy to discuss the subjects you would most like us to cover.
Whether you're interested in a general introduction to British wildlife, a closer look at hedgehog welfare or an insight into the realities of wildlife rescue, we can explore suitable options together.
When enquiring, please let us know:
The name and type of your organisation or group.
The age range and approximate number of attendees.
The subjects you are interested in.
Your preferred date, time and location.
Whether you are interested in an in-person or remote session.
This information will help us determine whether we can accommodate your request.
Can We Bring Wildlife to Your Event?
Our priority is always the welfare of the animals in our care.
Wild animals can find unfamiliar environments, handling, noise and crowds stressful. For this reason, we do not promise live-animal demonstrations as part of our talks.
Any potential animal involvement would need to be considered individually, with appropriate welfare, handling, legal and safety requirements taken into account. Where suitable, we may instead use photographs, educational materials and real-life examples from our rescue work.
We believe people can develop a meaningful appreciation for wildlife without needing to handle or interact directly with wild animals.
Supporting Wildlife Through Education
Education is an important part of responsible wildlife rescue.
By helping people recognise the needs of native species, understand when intervention is appropriate and make wildlife-friendly choices, we can work towards a future where fewer animals are harmed by preventable hazards and more people feel confident responding responsibly when wildlife needs help.
Every conversation is an opportunity to make a difference.
