At CapesWildlifeRescue, the welfare of every animal in our care is at the heart of everything we do.
Behind every rescue is a dedicated team committed to providing appropriate treatment, rehabilitation and the best possible chance of returning to the wild. Our veterinary team combines professional veterinary expertise with hands-on wildlife rehabilitation experience to support the animals who need us most.
From initial assessment and treatment to ongoing care and recovery, we aim to make evidence-informed, welfare-led decisions for every individual animal.
We are incredibly fortunate to have our very own veterinary professionals working on-site at the rescue. In addition to this, we host our very own in-house laboratory and some diagnostic equipment. Where specialist equipment is required we use a variety of veterinary practices including Medivet Swanland 24hr, Clee Vets, VetsForPets Scunthorpe and Grimsby as well as Battleflats.
Meet the people helping us make a difference.
Monica is our veterinary surgeon and an integral part of the CapesWildlifeRescue team. Her extensive veterinary knowledge and clinical expertise help support the assessment, treatment and welfare of the wildlife admitted to our care.
Working alongside our rehabilitation team, Monica helps guide clinical decision-making and supports us in providing appropriate care for animals requiring veterinary attention.
Her involvement helps ensure that animal welfare remains central to our work, with each animal's individual needs and prognosis carefully considered.
Josh is the founder of CapesWildlifeRescue and a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) with a passion for wildlife medicine, rehabilitation and conservation.
Combining his professional veterinary nursing background with practical wildlife rehabilitation experience, Josh oversees much of the day-to-day care of animals admitted to the rescue. His responsibilities include patient assessments, monitoring, nursing care, medication administration, rehabilitation planning and coordinating the team's ongoing care.
Josh is particularly passionate about improving standards of wildlife rehabilitation, developing clear care protocols and ensuring that every animal receives individualised, welfare-focused treatment.
His ultimate goal is to give each animal the best possible opportunity to recover and return to its natural environment wherever appropriate.
Wildlife rehabilitation is a team effort. Our veterinary and rehabilitation teams work together to assess individual needs, monitor progress and make decisions based on each animal's welfare and prospects for recovery.
We recognise that rehabilitation is not always straightforward. Where an animal cannot recover sufficiently for release, we carefully consider its quality of life and the most appropriate outcome.
Our priority is always the animal — its welfare, its recovery and, wherever possible, its return to the wild.
Thank you for supporting CapesWildlifeRescue and helping us provide wildlife with the care and attention they deserve.
